iPod Touch not compatible with Cube

in

Anyone else try using an iPod Touch with their Cube? I can get it to play sometimes (though not always). When it does play, I can't shuffle, change tracks, use playlists or anything - I have to unplug to change tracks.

This only seems to happen with the iPod Touch. Other iPods seem to work fine... Anyone find any firmware updates out there that might address the problem?

My Nissan dealer was unable to help with this. I also have to note the irony of the iPod Touch giveaway - seeing as it doesn't seem compatible with this car and Nissan hasn't show any interest in fixing it...

Love my Cube... despite the music problems!

Hey.

I've personally not run into that problem, though I haven't tried my touch, but have used my iPhone (iPod Touch++). It works (Kind of - Let me explain).

When you connect any of the new generation Apple players to the Cube you should see a message on the iPod/iPhone screen that says 'this device was not designed to work with your iPod/iPhone' (or something like that).

The reason is that the Cube comes with a 'fire wire' connector and not a USB connection. That connection allows the device (in this case the Cube's stereo) to access the content on the iPod/iPhone and play it back. However, it will not charge your iPod/iPhone.

So, in your case there seems to be something funky going on with the connector. Either its not completely plugged into your iPod or its not completely plugged into the port above the cup holder. Or it may just be faulty.

As for accessing music and/or shuffling etc. You have to use the iPod menu button on the stereo to navigate artists, albums, genres, playlists etc. To shuffle, you have to press one of the buttons on the right hand side of the stereo (can't remember which one) - then it shifts from either repeat or shuffle.

Hope that helps.

Hey,

The main question is what generation of ipod do you have? The reason I ask is that depending on the generation, the cube may or may not work out of the box. What happened is about 6 -12 month ago apple changed how the unit charges. It used to take power from both usb and firewire connectors, not it only takes it from firewire. So if you have a gen or gen 2 ipod touch you need to upgrade to the newest firmware. That should fix your problems with shuffling. The second issue is that you won't be able to charge your ipod touch.

You will need an adapter called a Scosche passport. Here is a link to amazon with some info on it. http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-passPORT-Charging-Adapter-iPhone/dp/B001HN...

That will fix most if not all compatibility issues between the cube and older ipod touches. That said, Gen 3 ipod touches work flawlessly.
